Insights Boards

Insights Boards allow you present the findings from your workflows (such as tables and visualizations) in a customizable layout. The board can also continuously update if it's built on top of a live data stream (such as a workflow that accesses a database) and can be shared with DataChat users within your organization.

Create an Insights Board

Create a new Insights Board in three different ways:

  • Click the + New button from the homepage, then click Insights Board.

  • From an existing chart or table by clicking the Publish button (+). Then click the Create Insights Board and Publish button, name your Insights Board, and click Submit.

A new Insights Board is initially blank. To fill it in, refer below to the Add Content to an Insights Board section for more information.

Add Content to an Insights Board

Add Charts, Notes, or Tables

From Grid mode, you can publish charts, notes, or tables to Insights Boards:

  1. Open a session.

  2. Create charts, notes, or tables you would like to present. Or, use Replay to use items from an existing workflow.

  3. Save the chart, note, or table.

  4. Publish the chart, note, or table to your Insights Board using either of the following methods:

    • Click the Publish button (+) on the chart, note, or table and select an existing Insights Board (or create a new one).

    • Use the Publish skill to send the chart, note, or table to an existing Insights Board.

      For example, to publish the chart called "Survivors" to the Insights Board called "TitanicSurvivors", enter Publish the chart called Survivors to the Insights Board called MyIncite as SurvivedAge.

Navigate to your Insights board:

  1. Return to the homepage by clicking on the DataChat button.

  2. From the Featured or Insights Boards sections, click on your saved Insights Board. If publication is successful, all published items appear:

Hover over charts, notes, or tables to:

  • View headers and take relevant actions.

  • Move and resize the panel the Insight Board.

Add more items to your Insights Board by repeating the steps above.

Edit Chart Fonts

After you publish a chart to an Insights Board, you can use the Edit button to change the sizes of the fonts:

Edit or Preview a Chart's Workflow

You can use the Edit the Chart's Workflow button to both preview the workflow that created the chart and open that workflow in the Workflow Editor if you need to make changes. Refer to the Edit a Workflow section for more information.

Add Widgets

Widgets are useful for quickly highlighting a simple metric, such as a trend, in a way that's easier to read than a small table. For example, you might create a widget that shows which way your sales data is trending, instead of using a table:

Create a Widget

There are two types of widgets:

  • Summary-only. Shows only a total (such as total sales).
  • Summary with trend. Shows a total along with a trend.

To create a summary-only widget:

  1. In a session, create a table that has only one row and one column.

  2. Click the Edit mode button.

  1. Click the Toggle template button (the pencil) to turn the table into a widget.

  1. Click the Save button to save the table as a widget.

  1. Click the Publish button (+) to publish the widget to your Insights Board.

To create a summary with trend widget, repeat the steps above, but create a table with one row and two columns. The first column should be the total, while the second column should be your trend, such as positive or negative percentage. For example:

Use an Insights Board

Insights Boards are interactive and customizable. You can investigate data in your charts and page through tables just as you would in a session. You can also customize the layout of the panels within the Insights Board. The sections below cover everything you need to know about using your Insights Boards.

Use the Panels

Each chart, table, and note published to an Insights Board lives in its own panel. These panels work just as they do in a session. You can use your mouse to investigate values in a chart, change the slider value, zoom in on a section, and more. Refer to the Explore a Chart section for more information.

Each panel can be moved around the Board and resized. To move a panel, click and hold the header, and then drag the panel to its new position. Release the mouse to drop the panel.

To resize a panel, click and drag the corners or the left, right, and bottom edges.

Manage the Board's Panels

After you've published charts, notes, or tables to an Insights Board, you can remove them from the board by clicking the X in the panel. If you want to add a panel back to the board:

  1. Click the Manage button:

  2. Click the Add Item checkbox from the Unadded page to add an item back to the board, or click the Delete Item checkbox from the Added page to permanently remove the panel from the Insights Board.

Create an Annotation

You can also add annotations to your Insights Boards. To create a new annotation:

  1. Click the Create an Annotation button.

  2. Write your note, then click the Submit button.

DataChat allows for stylized texts when creating annotations for your Insights Board.

Refresh Content

Click the Refresh Content button to refresh your charts, tables, and notes. This reruns the underlying workflow that created the chart or table and updates it with any changes in the data. Each panel has a timestamp showing when the content was last refreshed.

You can also refresh an Insights Board from an Notebook session by entering Refresh the insights board <board> where <board> is the name of the Insights Board you want to refresh.

Save Changes

To save any changes you've made to your Insights Board, click the Save button in the toolbar. When you come back to the Insights Board, your saved changes become the new defaults.

You can make a copy of your Board using the Save As button. You can find the copy on the homepage.

Share an Insights Board

Share your Insights Boards with other users in your organization to give them limited access to your Insights Board. They can't add or remove panels, but they can view and refresh your panels. You can grant and remove access to your Board using the Share button from within the Board or from the homepage

From the Insights Board Sharing form, you can create a public link to share with users who don't have access to DataChat or aren't logged in. Insight boards accessed through a public link are view-only users cannot refresh or edit the contents of the boards.

  1. Click on Share in the top navigation menu to open the Insights Board Sharing form.
  2. Click Make Public and then Copy Link to save the link to the clipboard.
  3. Share the public link.

Delete an Insights Board

You can delete an Insights Board from the Insights Board page of the homepage. Note that deleting a Board also deletes it for any users it's shared with.

Automatically Refresh an Insights Board

You can schedule an Insights Board to automatically refresh at a certain time and on certain days. Note that a given Insights Board can have only four different refreshes associated with it at a given time and that each refresh must be at least an hour apart.

To schedule a refresh:

  1. Make sure you've created the Insights Board for which you want to schedule a refresh.
  2. In a session, enter Schedule the insights board refresh for <board> on <days> at <time> <timezone> where:
    • board is the name of the Insights Board.
    • days is the day or days of the week on which the Insights Board should be refreshed.
    • time is the time at which the Insights Board should be refreshed. Note that parameter uses the 24 hour format.
    • timezone is the time zone to use with the time parameter.

Reschedule a Refresh

To reschedule a scheduled refresh, enter Reschedule the insights board refresh for <board> on <days> at <time> <time zone> to <new days> at <new time> <new timezone>.

Delete a Scheduled Refresh

To delete a refresh, enter Delete the scheduled insights board refresh for <board> on <days> at <time> <time zone>.

List All Scheduled Refreshes

To see all of the refresh schedules for all Insights Boards, enter List all the scheduled insights boards refreshes to see only the Insights Board refresh schedules, or List all the events to see both Insights Boards refresh schedules and workflow replays.
