Launch a Session

Launch a Session

All sessions in DataChat start at the homepage. To start a session, go to the homepage and select New > Session. By default, you can have a maximum of five sessions open at a time.

Session button

Grid mode gives more weight to your datasets with a spreadsheet-like feel.

Navigate Grid mode

Grid mode has seven main components:

  1. Mode buttons. Switch between Grid and Notebook mode.
  2. Sidebar. The sidebar buttons launch skill forms used to create steps. Related skills are grouped together.
  3. Dataset panel. The available datasets are shown as tabs at the top of the panel. Clicking on a tab sets that dataset as the current dataset. Double-click a tab to rename the dataset. Click the versions dropdown next to the dataset name to see available versions of that dataset. Datasets with a lock next to them are read-only; performing actions on them first copies the selected dataset to "[Dataset] v2" and then performs the action on that dataset.
  4. Visualization panel. This is a toggleable panel where visualizations are shown.
  5. Ask panel. This is a toggleable panel where Ask can be used.
  6. Log panel. This is a toggleable panel that includes the log and optionally, the GEL input field, where you can enter and view steps and responses.
  7. End the session button. Click Confirm to return to the homepage without saving the session.

Notebook mode gives equal weight to your datasets and charts while focusing more on the GEL input field and log.

Navigate Notebook mode

Notebook mode has five main components:

  1. Mode buttons. Switch between Grid and Notebook mode.
  2. Sidebar. The sidebar buttons launch the skill forms used to create steps. Related skills are grouped together.
  3. Display panel. This is where tables and charts appear as you chat with Ava.
  4. GEL input field. This is where you send skill patterns that become steps.
  5. Log. This is where you can see your previous steps and responses.

Name a session

You can also name your session to make them easier to find and to differentiate them on the homepage. By default, new sessions are titled "Unnamed". Double-click on the name of the session next to the home icon at the top left of the screen and enter a new name:
